MEET A MENTOR
As part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence 2024, White Heart Development Initiative implemented the Meet-a-Mentor Programme to empower adolescent girls through meaningful mentorship. The initiative connected 40 girls from four schools with accomplished women leaders who shared their experiences, inspired confidence, and encouraged the girls to envision and pursue brighter futures.
Detailed Programme Overview
Programme Title: Meet-a-Mentor Programme
Context: The programme was organized as part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence 2024, a campaign dedicated to raising awareness and promoting actions to end violence against women and girls.
Objective:
To inspire and empower adolescent girls through mentorship
To provide positive female role models across various professional and advocacy fields
To build confidence, leadership skills, and future aspirations among participants
To reinforce the role of mentorship in preventing gender-based violence
Participants:
40 adolescent girls selected from four different schools
Programme Structure:
The Meet-a-Mentor Programme featured interactive mentoring sessions, designed to create a safe and engaging space for learning and exchange. Key components included:
Personal Storytelling: Mentors shared their life journeys, including challenges, milestones, and successes
Career Guidance: Discussions on education, career pathways, and professional growth
Confidence Building: Encouraging girls to believe in their abilities and potential
Interactive Dialogue: Open Q&A sessions allowing participants to ask questions and seek advice
Mentors: The programme brought together distinguished women leaders who are making significant impact in their respective fields:
Hajiya Maimuna Muhammed – Executive Director, Society for Women Development of Nigeria (SWODEN)
Mrs. Dinatu Dama Maji – Executive Director, Kasham Women, Girls and Youth Development
Ms. Zainab Nasir Ahmad – Executive Director, Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices
Engr. Naja’atu Kabir Mustapha

Increased self-confidence and motivation among participants
